I have a question about an old coin-op game from the 80s.

It was set in a post-nuclear apocalyptic society and ***bined anime with scrolling action.  You were supposed to gather people who survived the devastation and fight some sort of mutants or evil critters.

The anime part would appear when you'd go to pick up your new ally.  There was an African-American kid who skateboarded, a Native American guy who had a halo around him, there were a couple of female characters, etc.  The scrolling action part of the game was when you'd use your new friend to fight against the bad guys.

One of the scenes I remember most clearly was the effect of the nuclear blast.  It was anime and I remember a bespectacled guy whose glasses would fly off, his face would start to melt, and his eye would pop out of his skull.

Does anyone remember this game and what it was named? I remember playing it in the mid 80s---maybe 1983-1985?

Found it...someone gave me the reference.  It's "Bega's Battle."
